Regarding PAA safety in the mouth, this and other HMWP are COMMON food, toothpastes, artificial salivas, OTC drug additives. You probably swallow these daily.
Thank you Prof Lyndon . I am definitely happy about this aerosol suppression technique you have shared. Keep up the good work.
Congratulations to the panel ! Recent studies have shownq that the SARSCOV2 replicates in salivary glands. Does pre-operatory rinsing with oxidising agents may help reducing the virus count and eventual virus loaded aerosold ?
Great questions. The Polyacrylic acid is just one of several HMWP we have investigated. We do not see effects on equipment and we do not know if it would impair or enhance waterline hygiene; of course it is necessary to continue waterline hygiene measures.
How safe is PAA in the patients mouth?
How does the polyacrylic acid affect waterline biofilm and does it damage the equipment?
Aerosol suppression is the way forward

Thank you for this webinar. This is such an important topic especially for dental practices in Africa.
I have a question, Prof Mark Antal, what measures would you recommend for dental practices in Africa where basic equipment like the high speed evacuator are not readily available?
Rapid testing is a good idea; antigen testing, antibody testing and RT PCR testing of virus and response to it all have differening sensitivity and selectivity issues. The chance of false negatives could be a risk. The chance of false positives will reduce patient intake. TIme, costs are issues.
Would Covid-19 rapid testing technologies be indicated for patient transmission evaluation before dental treatments?
Good evening everyone!
