Laser dentistry in general practiceLasers in dentistry have many clinical applications dependent on the specific properties of the wavelength. This lecture will focus on the procedures for general practitioners and how to select and utilise the correct laser wavelength. In addition, how to avoid complications from the laser use will also be demonstrated.
Decay removal, applications in soft and hard tissues in all different fields of clinical dentistry will be demonstrated with various laser wavelengths. However, the laser, as a supportive tool for the treatment of periodontal disease and management of peri-implant lesions, is the main focus of this presentation. Clinical protocols for bacterial reduction, removal of calculus and concepts of periodontal regeneration using different laser wavelengths will be provided in order to clarify the algorithms for successful surgical treatment without complications. And last but not least, preventive mechanisms in order to avoid complications from the laser use will be defined using high number of clinical cases step by step.
Learning objectives:
- To provide information about the specific characteristics of different laser wavelenghts for general practitioners
- To demonstrate the clinical application for the correct laser wavelength in difference clinical case scenarios
- To give information how to avoid complications from the laser use in clinical dentistry
