Prof. Judith Jones
Judith Ann Jones, D.D.S. is Professor at the University of Detroit Mercy. Dr. Jones is an expert spokeswoman on eldercare for the American Dental Association, a professional organization representing approximately 159,000 U.S. dentists. Dr. Jones serves as Executive Director and is Past President of the American Board of Dental Public Health. She earned her D.D.S. and M.P.H. degrees from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC, and a Doctor of Science in Dentistry degree in Dental Public Health from Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. She is board certified in Dental Public Health and Geriatric Dentistry.
Prof. Kakuhiro Fukai
Kakuhiro Fukai, D.D.S., Ph.D., is director of the Fukai Institute of Health Science (Japan), visiting professor at Kanagawa Dental University, and visiting researcher at Japan’s National Institute of Public Health. He also serves as chair of FDI’s Oral Health for Ageing Population Task Team (2015-2019, 2021-2024). In addition, he has served as director of Japan Dental Association and executive director of the 8020 Promotion Foundation (2013-2019). He has also maintained a private dental practice for the past thirty years.
Performing all of these roles simultaneously has provided him with practical experience and academic expertise at both the global and local level and in all stages of the evidence-policy-practice-evaluation cycle. His research activities have focused on global oral health, the link between oral and systemic health, and healthy longevity. He has published over 300 research articles and 50 books on oral health promotion. Representative of his work is a long-term cohort study of Japanese community residents’ oral health and longevity initiated in 1987, which remains ongoing. He also edited The Current Evidence of Dental Care and Oral Health for Achieving Healthy Longevity in an Aging Society (Japan Dental Association, 2015), the most thorough and globally comprehensive review of its kind. His social contributions also include annual visits to Nepal for the past thirty years to conduct community health and oral health promotion activities with the Association of Dental Cooperation in Nepal, of which he currently serves as president.
Dr. Bathsheba (Bethy) Turton
Dr. Bathsheba (Bethy) Turton, BDS, MComDent, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, Boston University. Trained in dental public health in New Zealand and Australia, she has led international research and clinical trials on caries prevention, silver fluoride therapies, and innovations in oral health systems. Dr. Turton’s work spans academic, governmental, and NGO collaborations, with a focus on building sustainable oral health programs in resource-limited settings. Her recent research applies systems thinking to oral disease prevention in long-term care, integrating clinical, policy, and community perspectives to design interventions that improve outcomes for older adults.

In some countries, mobile dentistry services are already avaliable to provide on site oral healthcare for edeely patients, particularly those in long term care settings. in your view, how important is this model in the context of healthy aging, prevention and integrated care systems?
Have you considered including in one of your protocols or policy suggestions and recommendations to integrate a qualified oral health professional such as dental hygienists as a regular member of the long term care team as dietician This could support preventative care provide staff education etc. ?
