Dr. Elham Kateeb
Dr. Elham Kateeb is an associate professor of Dental Public Health at the College of Dentistry, Al-Quds University, a research affiliate at the Public Policy Center, University of Iowa. Dr. Kateeb is an active health service researcher, an inspiring educator and a community dentistry specialist who advocates for better oral health locally and globally. She is an elected member of the International Dental Federation (FDI) Public Health Committee since 2017 and a steering board member at VISTO International For Rights and Development and the Global Movement for Sustainable Health Equity (SHEM). Dr. Kateeb is the co-chair of Women in Science Organization (OWSD) Palestine chapter. She is the receiver of the 2013 Olav Alvares Award for Best Article Published in the JDE journal, 2013 fellow of the Leverett Graduate Merit Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dental Public Health, 2014 Loreal- UNESCO “Women For Science” Laureate, 2014 Zamalah Fellowship alumnus, 2016 SMILE Award winner in the Innovation Category for her Prenatal and Infant Oral Health project and 2022 class of 100 Top Doctors by Doctor-To-Doctor initiative. Dr. Kateeb completed her PhD in Dental Public Health from the University of Iowa , her MPH from UMASS University at Amherst and her BDS in Dental Surgery from University of Jordan. Dr. Kateeb is a diplomate of the American Board of Dental Public Health since 2013.

Robert Witton
Robert is a UK registered Specialist in Dental Public Health (DPH) working as a Consultant for the national public health agency, Public Health England, in the southwest of England. He is passionate about preventing oral disease and promoting oral health in the UK and internationally, and about the FDI’s aim of making quality oral healthcare affordable, accessible and available for all. Rob is also a Professor at the University of Plymouth, where he is Head of Department in Community Dentistry and Public Health. In this role, he leads an award winning not-for-profit dental organisation, which delivers clinical services and oral health programmes to underserved communities. This involves educating the next generation of dental professionals in population wide prevention of oral disease by working through community engagement with vulnerable and disadvantaged groups. He has developed several successful oral health programmes for children, people experiencing homelessness, people with learning disabilities, and for asylum seekers and refugees.
Dr. Khaleda Zaheer
Khaleda graduated from Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. She is a founding member for the global charity, Refugee Crisis Foundation. She has designed and delivered quality health care programmes in emergency humanitarian settings for refugees in France, Greece, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Since 2018, she has been leading the oral healthcare program in the world’s largest refugee camp, the Kutupalong camp, in Bangladesh which has a population of nearly a million Rohingya refugees.
Her vision is to raise awareness of the oral health needs of refugees and reduce the burden of disease through effective oral health promotion. Khaleda has a keen interest in public health and research. She has undertaken projects in the refugee camps to assess the oral health needs of refugees and its impact on their quality of life.
Maher H Ishtayeh
Born in Jerusalem, Palestine, Maher holds a bachelors degree in dental surgery from Jordan University for Science and Technology, and a Masters degree in public health from Birzeit university, Palestine.
He has been extensively involved in providing oral health services for Palestinians in refugee camps in occupied Palestinian Territories through UNRWA for more than 25 years.
and ran the mobile dental services program. He participated in the design and application of several oral screening programs through unrwa clinics and in conducting several studies concerning oral health status for Palestinian refugees.
Currently serves the Palestinian refugees by holding the position of Field Oral Health Services Officer in the west bank field at UNRWA.

Have there ever been any resistance to the oral health service provision in any of the refugee sites or even any legal or administrative restrictions imposed for the dental workforce? Who are the reporting authorities at a refugee site?
