Strategy of simple, effective, safe and economical bone augmentation.
Encouraging the healing potential of the bone.
Autologous bone graft is still a gold standard for bone augmentation; however, invasiveness and limitation of harvestable bone volume are the problems. Simple, effective, safe and economical ways for bone augmentation are ideal. The current trend of tissue engineering is applying one or combination of cells, signal molecules and scaffold to the regenerative site, which is effective. However, this strategy is complicated and time -and cost- consuming. I will propose a new strategy for bone augmentation: Encouraging the healing potential of the bone and providing a space for bone regeneration.
Learning objectives:
- Learn the basic concept of tissue engineering
- Learn current materials and techniques of bone augmentation
- Understand a new strategy for bone augmentation
